Juvenile bearded vulture, Giant's Castle, South Africa

To see the highly endangered bearded vulture is a life changing experecience in itself... to see it in flight with all its grace and stealth, just adds to it! Eye to eye with an awesome scavenger, which will most probably be extinct in the next 2 or 3 decades...

He looks as if he is appraising you to see if there is any chance that you will keel over and die in the next few minutes. As you seem healthy, he swallows his disappointment and moves on to look for someone in much more frail condition....

what a cracking picture, its so detailed, you can see all the feathers lined up clearly, and its feet tucked up away underneath it, it has a curious glint in its eye that you can clearly see, wonderful!
